October 9, 2020

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced a combined investment of $815 million to modernize and build new irrigation infrastructure and to increase water shed capacity. Kenney says the agriculture sector contributes $9.2B to the provincial economy and with Alberta's unemployment rate at 11.7 percent we have to invest more into supporting our farmers and rancher.

Kenney says the investment will create over 8,000 jobs and that the province is looking at expanding irrigable land as well by up to 208,000 acres, boosting production and supporting diversification in the food industry.

Alberta's unemployment rate is currently the second highest in the country next to Newfoundland.
