Airline passengers now to be compensated for cancelled flights and lost luggage

July 15, 2019

New regulations took effect today that are designed to help airline passengers.

Airlines now have to reimburse anyone bumped from a flight up to 24 hundred dollars. For those passengers whose luggage is lost or damaged, they can also receive up to 21 hundred dollars. The regulations also force airlines to give updates and let passengers know their rights if their flight has been delayed or cancelled.

Both Air Canada and Porter Airlines asked the Federal Court of Appeal to quash the new rules which they say violate international standards.
