Dozens of people gathered at Lethbridge City Hall today for National Indigenous Peoples Day and raising of the Blackfoot flag. A number of politicians and members of the Indigenous community spoke about what this day means to them. Mayor Chris Spearman says the youth in our community are an integral part of reconciliation with our Indigenous Community.
"I think our younger people really do get it. I think our younger people are already understanding at a much better rate than some people my age. I have to admit, it's been an educational process for myself. We've lived in two solitudes for decades and we haven't recognized why that's not healthy."
Lethbridge has been celebrating the Indigenous community all week, with various activities organized until June 25.
