Braving the Frigid Waters in Support of Special Olympics Athletes

February 2, 2019

Environment Canada warns that today's temperatures could result in frostbite. Still community members took the plunge.

The annual Polar Plunge in support of the Lethbridge Special Olympics athletes saw hundreds gathered at Henderson Lake.

Local radio host Chad Benson of B93 broke the ice with the inaugural dip and post-shock hot tub.

"The waiting was the worst," explains Benson.

"Once you jump in, it's almost like your heart stops for half a second," he says of the thrill.

The event was fueled 100% by donation, and all funds went to subsidizing the cost of sports for those with special needs.

The grand total raised will be made available in the next few days.
