Conservatives call on Trudeau to resign

March 5, 2019

Federal Conservative leader Andrew Scheer is calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign saying he no longer has the "moral authority to lead" in light of the SNC-Lavalin affair.

Some, including Lethbridge Tory MP Rachael Harder, are even calling on the RCMP to investigate the prime minister to see if criminal charges should be filed for obstruction of justice.

The Trudeau cabinet is in turmoil as Treasury Board President Jane Philpott resigned recently. This follows the resignations of former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould and Trudeau's principal secretary Gerald Butts.

Accusers say PM Trudeau pressured Jody Wilson-Raybould to SNC-Lavalin to abandon the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin in favour of a remediation agreement. The Quebec engineering firm faces charges of corruption and fraud in connection with payments made to Libyan government officials between 2001 and 2011. If convicted, the company could be blocked from competing for federal government contracts for a decade.
