David and Collet Stephan seek stay in proceedings

May 31, 2019

David and Collet Stephan were both back in Lethbridge court today asking for a stay in proceedings. The couple who was originally convicted in 2016 of failing to provide the necessaries of life for their son Ezekiel who died of meningitis, appealed their conviction and the Supreme Court of Canada ordered a new trial. The couple wants Alberta Health Services to turn over evidence.

With May being the month of Sexual Violence Awareness, Lethbridge College brought in a speaker from Edmonton to educate the Sexual Violence Action Committee on ways to support victims of workplace harassment.

"Really, we just need to start from a place of believing people who come fourth with allegations of sexual harassment—it's the first step. When we act with disbelief, we make people feel unsupported, and unwilling to share more about what happened," says Sexual Violence Prevention educator Derek Warick

According to Canadian Business, 43 percent of women and 12 percent of men say they have been harassed at work.
