CP Rail Canada talks safety

September 26, 2019

CP Rail Canada stopped in Southern Alberta to discuss Rail Safety Week.

Each year 2,100 North Americans are killed, or seriously injured because of unsafe behavior around railroad tracks. This week is to promote Rail Safety in Canada and the US. CP Rail Canada says that many of these accidents are because of trespassing and people simply not paying attention when driving.

"Trespassing incidents are always a concern, especially when you have trespassers that are wearing earphones, headphones, talking on their cell phone. They don't hear the train. Those are a big concern to any police officer and the staff and support staff with CP rail," says Sergeant Anthony Kilburn

According to Transportation Safety Board of Canada, there have been seven railway fatalities in Alberta this year.
