Debunking myths around winter tires

October 28, 2019

You know what they say if you don't like the weather in Alberta—just wait 15 minutes.

This is the time of year many are thinking about winterizing their vehicles. Knowing which tires to put on your car, truck, minivan or SUV  is essential.  Kal Tire shared their expertise as to when it's time to change your tires along with common tire misconceptions people have.

"The myth people still have is (that they) have a four-wheel drive, or an all-wheel drive vehicle, so (they) don't need winter tires. In a sense, all four tires provide traction but if your tires don't have any traction to provide, the all-wheel or four-wheel isn't going to do anything anyway," says Kal Tire manager Aric Ewach

A survey conducted by the AMA last year found that 68 per cent of members use winter tires. Fifty per cent agree that they should be mandatory.
