Feds finally approve the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion

June 18, 2019

The federal government has approved the multi-billion dollar Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. The announcement came down today in Ottawa. The company building the pipeline has already received 30 percent of the product to begin construction.

The project had begun slowly in 2018, before the Federal Court of Appeal put the brakes to it. Ottawa wanted to further consult with Indigenous groups and investigate its impact on marine life. In the second report, 156 conditions were placed on the expansion project. The Trans Mountain Corporation says the economic benefits of the expansion would be close to $47-billion over the first 20 years.
