Funding boost to battle opioid crisis in Alberta

September 11, 2019

As the opioid crisis rages on across Alberta, the province announced today that it will be funding four thousand new addiction treatment beds, outpatient services and medically assisted detox spaces.

The 140-million dollar financial boost will be spread over the next four years. Some of the funds will be used to upgrade existing social detox beds to medically supported detox beds. No word yet on how funding Lethbridge will receive. Premier Jason Kenney says the extra funds will improve addiction and mental health care and for opioid response.
