How to adopt a storm drain in Lethbridge

July 8, 2020

The city of Lethbridge is trying to keep The Old Man River clean of debris, and other harmful bacteria. They are challenging residents to adopt a storm drain.

You can pick which storm drain in your neighborhood to adopt, and it’s all done online.

"In the map you will zoom in on your computer to where you live, at which point you'll find a storm drain in your area or any other area in the city. It will show you which ones are available, and which ones are already being adopted. You click on it, and then you click 'adopt'. You (will) fill out all of your information — your name and email address," says Stephanie Vehnon, Outreach Specialist for the water, wastewater & stormwater department at the City of Lethbridge.

Vehnon adds, "After you have done the online portion, you will need some supplies in order to clean the storm drain. Some gloves, a garbage bag, and maybe a small shovel depending on how clogged the storm drain is. You want to make sure you're being safe".
