Hurricanes to defer payment of 2020 maintenance fee

September 22, 2020

Lethbridge City Council voted to allow the WHL Hurricanes to defer its 2020 maintenance fee to the Enmax Centre. The WHL season is anticipated to start on December 4, and the club still doesn’t know if they’ll be able to have fans and what challenges still lie ahead for them economically.

"With this deferral from the city, that's a big payment off of our backs. It's going to be a struggle to get through the season and whatever that looks like if we do play," says Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager of Business Operations, Terry Huisman "We'll just have to be very careful and cognizant of what we're doing and operate as lean as well can, and capitalize on our opportunity," adds Huisman.

Council voted unanimously to forgive the fee, which totalled $166,667 for the year.
