Lethbridge City Council will not renew School Bus Operations contract

November 25, 2019

Lethbridge City Council voted to not renew the School Bus Operations contract with the Lethbridge School Division and the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic School Division.

The result means parents may now be charged a transportation fee for parents and students who do not normally have to pay one. "This would be a devastating change for parents in Lethbridge who are used to not having this burden," says Chris Smeaton Supt with Holy Spirit Catholic School Division. For the 2019/2020 school year the school divisions anticipate paying around $2.8-million for Yellow School Bus Services and Administration. There is also close to $67,000 spent on charters such as field trips and almost $174,000 on AccessA-Ride. Special Needs Bus Operating Costs added up to $60,572.
