Lethbridge City Hall kicks off Reconciliation Week with a flag-raising ceremony

September 21, 2020

Reconciliation Week has begun in Lethbridge. It's also the anniversary of the 1877 signing of Treaty 7, an agreement between the Canadian Crown and First Nations in Southern Alberta.

Reconciliation is about creating shared understanding and building strong-relationships and respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

To celebrate a special flag raising took place earlier today at City Hall.

As part of today's events a teepee transfer ceremony also took place at Galt Gardens. It will remain there until September 25th and will be used for cultural connection with the Indigenous Community this week.
