Lethbridge man charged with second-degree murder

Lethbridge Police have charged Jason Paul James Crane Chief, 27, of Lethbridge, with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 43-year-old man last week.

On April 27, 2020 at approximately 6:55 a.m. police responded to a report of an injured male at an apartment building along the 1200 block of 4 Avenue South.  Police and EMS attended and located a deceased 43-year-old male inside one of the units.

According to an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Section, it was determined that during the evening of April 26, 2020, the male had been inside his apartment socializing with acquaintances when a physical altercation ensued, resulting in the victim sustaining fatal injuries.

The victims friend attended his apartment the following day, where the individual found him unresponsive and called for help.

Police subsequently identified a suspect who was arrested on May 1, 2020 without incident and is currently remanded in custody.

Crane Chief is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on May 11, 2020.
