Lethbridge Police officer not charged for running over deer

June 26, 2019

Lethbridge Police officer not charged after investigation from ASIRT

On January 5 2019, footage was released of a Lethbridge Police officer running back and forth over a deer. The video went viral, and even sparked a protest in front of Police Headquarters.  A petition was started on Change.org asking for the officer to be fired. The petition currently has nearly 100,000 online signatures.

The Alberta serious incident response team announced today that no criminal charges will be laid against the police officer involved.  ASIRT did however, say that the decision to run over the deer with his truck was "flawed".

It was also confirmed that the officer did not contact Alberta Fish and Wildlife or a local veterinarian before the incident took place.
