Lethbridge under COVID watch as cases spike to 112; schools see rise in cases

Alberta Health Services has placed the City of Lethbridge under a COVID-19 Watch due to the increase of cases in our region. As of Wednesday afternoon we have 112 active cases in Lethbridge.

There is an outbreak at the Cavendish Farms Potato Processing Plant, where 10 people have contracted the virus. The novel coronavirus has also impacted schools in our region. The Lethbridge School Division is reporting cases at various schools including Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School, Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, Lakeview Elementary, Fleetwood Bawden Elementary, Agnes Davidson Elementary and Victoria Park High School. 

COVID-19 cases have also been reported at schools within the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division. An outbreak was declared at St. Francis Junior High School today. It's not believed to be an instance of in-school transmission. There is also a single active case reported at Ecole St. Mary Elementary school.   

The number of active coronavirus cases has also grown in Lethbridge County, which is under official "watch status" from Alberta Health Services. There have been 11 more cases over the past 5 days for a total of 45 .

Across the province there are 2,615 active cases including 177 here in the South Zone. The Edmonton Zone still leads the way with 1,473. There are 791 in the Calgary Zone.
