Man witnesses neighbour's car stolen from driveway

January 16, 2020

Police are warning to keep vehicles locked while warming them on these cold mornings.

One north side resident got a rude awakening Wednesday morning when his car was stolen from his driveway while it was left running at his Stafford Bay home around 8:30 a.m.

The owner saw the vehicle backing out of his driveway and ran out to stop it. A brief struggle ensued but the subject was able to speed away.

Chris Baines lives on the same street and says he saw a car appearing to drive out of control after nearly hitting his neighbours fence. He says he saw the owner of the car running along the driver's side, trying to pull a man out of the vehicle before it sped away.

Coaldale RCMP located the abandoned vehicle on fire in a farmer's field outside Coaldale at around 11 a.m.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, about 20-25 years old, wearing a grey coat with the hood up (fur around the hood) and winter boots with fur on top.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477
