National organization helps low-income families obtain homes

May 24, 2019

It may be a buyer’s market down here in southern alberta, but getting the financing in place to mortgage a home continues to get more difficult.

Habitat for Humanity bridges a gap for low-income working families by providing them with the opportunity to purchase their own habitat home and build a better life.  Last year’s recipients of a Habitat home, John and Catherine say the home has played a pivotal role in their lives.

It’s a popular myth that the homes are given away free of charge.  Chairman for Habitat for Humanity Lethbridge, Dan Shapiro says that in addition to volunteering 500 hours with Habitat, the families pay a mortgage.
