One of World's Top 10 Largest Solar Power Projects Could be Built on Alberta Soil

May 27, 2019

That's if an application to the Alberta Utilities Commission by Greengate Power is accepted. The Calgary based company hopes to build the 500 million dollar, 400 megawatt solar power plant in Vulcan County on 4,700 acres of private land near the Traverse Reservoir.

"A project of this size would roughly provide power to 100 000 homes," says Dan Balaban, Founder, president and CEO of Greengate. "If anything it should contribute to lower power bills for Albertans because solar energy is extremely cost effective."

Balaban says it will be by far the largest solar power project in the country and one of the top ten largest in the world.

If the application gets the green light, Greengate will begin building by the end of the year. The project should take two years to complete.
