The origin of Pink Shirt Day is very straightforward. In 2007, a boy in a Nova Scotia school was being picked on for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. Fellow students David Shepherd and Travis Prince noticed the bullying, so they decided to go out and buy dozens of pink shirts for their classmates to wear. By the end of that week, most of the students in the school were wearing pink shirts to show support for the Grade 9 student who was bullied.
Since then, schools like Coalbanks Elementary have adopted pink shirts as the symbol of the anti-bullying movement.
