Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the aid package includes everything from providing protective equipment for workers in food processing plants, to money for beef and pork producers who cannot sell their animals. $50 million will go into purchasing food that will be sent to food banks, which would otherwise spoil.
Harder claims the give-out is 'crumbs' compared to what the agricultural industry needs.
"The Canadian Federation of Agriculture requested $2.6 billion. Today, what the government announced is only one-tenth of that. My question is, why isn't the Prime Minister taking this more seriously? Why is he not caring for the daily necessities of (Canadians? We're talking about food supply. If we don't have farmers producing the food that we need, and if that food doesn't land on grocery store shelves, we're in a place of significant detriment to the country".
