Shake, Rattle and Roll: Rattlesnake season is here

April 24, 2019

Snake Wrangler, Ryan Heavy Head, does not call himself a snake whisperer, but others have. And listening to him describe what he does, it is hard not to see him that way.

"Snakes really get an unfair bad rap, when they actually play an important role in ecosystems," said Heavy Head. "Taking the time to learn about safety precautions before going outdoors can make all the difference."

Heavy Head says it's important to know that rattlesnakes will mostly mind their own business. The chances of actually being bitten are relatively small, and it usually only happens after a snake has been threatened or accidentally touched.

Snakes are so widespread in Lethbridge that it's almost as likely for you to encounter one in your neighbourhood as you would in the wild.
