Shots fired in west side neighbourhood

October 21, 2019

Residents in west Lethbridge say they heard gunshots earlier today along Columbia Boulevard West.

When people looked outside of their homes they saw a truck parked which quickly drove away.  According to neighbours, there was a strong police presence in a neighbouring alley and at a home at 471 Columbia Boulevard West.

Inspector Jason Walper of the Lethbridge Police released a statement on Monday afternoon.

"Police located that white SUV vehicle in the downtown core of Lethbridge after it was involved in a hit and run collision with another vehicle, not involved. The SUV was eventually located and parked at a parking lot of the Bay mall in downtown Lethbridge. Officers observed two females exit the vehicle and try to walk away from the scene. Both females were arrested as they walked from the area by police. A few minutes later, a male was also observed exiting the motor vehicle. The male began to run back into the downtown core and was subsequently arrested as he entered the Lethbridge courthouse. Further investigation by our officers on scene identified another possible male involved in the shooting. He was arrested a short time later and found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. A search of the vehicle also located a second firearm inside the vehicle. The vehicle was identified as being stolen from earlier, this week in Lethbridge. Four people are currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending at this time."

Lethbridge Police are no longer at the scene but did ask residents to avoid the area for a short time. The investigation continues.
