Southern Roots Hair Design starts bottle drive to help pay bills

January 11, 2021

Southern Roots Hair Design in Lethbridge was one of many salons that were forced to shut their doors due to the government restrictions. The salon is running a bottle drive to help out with funds needed to keep the company afloat. Company Owner, Davita Deering, says that the government has simply not done enough to help small business owners during this period.

Deering says that since Southern Roots Hair Design is a chair rental salon, they don't qualify for a lot of government assistance.

Ongoing restrictions keeping salons closed since December 8 have been extended until at least January 21.

If the salon stays closed, they're hoping to do an online auction, "I'm just trying to gather together donations to be able to auction off, and raise money that way for the salon," adds Deering.

Deering says the bottle drive money will be used to pay for rent and bills. She says anything beyond that will go toward helping another small business which may also be struggling.

The salon is happy to pick up bottles by having people call the shop or send them a message.

You can also drop off bottles to the salon on January 12 from 3-7:30pm.
