U of L hockey may still have life

April 29, 2020

U of L Pronghorns hockey could be making its return.

The university has created a committee which may allow the men's and women's hockey programs to be reinstated to USPORTS. The news comes one week after the school announced both programs would be cancelled due to provincial budget cuts.

U of L president Mike Mahon says they are looking at other community-funded programs for inspiration.

"The football program at the University of Regina that is community funded, the hockey program at Lakehead University that's community funded. Dan and I have already talked about information from those two programs to understand what (they) look like in terms of the model".

The committee will be led by U of L alumnus, and retired entrepreneur and oilfield company executive, Dan Laplante.
