"Half the battle is just getting that weight back on," he says.
The Red Deer native joined the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the 2014-2015 season and has become a leader in the community and role model for young hockey players.
Vandervlis is back with his Lethbridge billet family with his sights set on playing again. He says he'll travel to Calgary and Red Deer appointments often.
