Weekend traffic stop leads to recovery of drugs, weapons and $25k worth of stolen property; arrest of two men.

According to Lethbridge Police Service, the incident began just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, when police noted a vehicle illegally parked at the rear of the Coalbanks Inn in the 300-block of 5 Street South.

The driver was arrested on outstanding warrants and about 50 grams of meth, the equivalent of some 500 doses, was recovered from the car.

Following the execution of a search warrant, with the assistance of the Downtown Policing Unit, Crime Suppression Team and Priority Crimes Unit. A further 10 grams of meth was found in a suite in the hotel, as well as cocaine, oxycodone pills, bear spray, edged weapons, and more than 100 digital devices including cell phones, computers and tablets linked to thefts from motor vehicles across the city.

The investigation led police to believe the stolen property was being traded for drugs in the downtown core.

Jeffery Martens, 52, and Everett Barker, 57  were arrested and face several charges. Martens will appear in court December 3, 2020, and Barker on January 28, 2021.
